About
The Shakori Hills Community Arts Center’s mission is to provide culturally significant arts, music and environmental-sustainability education and outreach to our local community and schools. As a nonprofit organization, Chatham County’s beautiful Shakori Hills holds musical evenings under the stars with our monthly summer concert series and the NC Stars in the Round. We present our own traditional fiddlers’ convention, the Hoppin’ John Old-Time & Bluegrass Fiddlers’ Convention, in September and are best known for hosting the bi-annual Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival every April and October, a family-friendly celebration of music, dance, art, & education. In addition, we organize the Roots in the Schools program, bringing musicians, artists and dancers into local schools to help supplement the curriculum and maintain a Community Garden, occupying approximately 8,800 square feet, with three crop rotation areas to keep the harvest on a year-round cycle—all are welcome! As we grow, we are pleased to offer workshops and classes, many of them free of charge, throughout the year to our community.
