The Chatham Artists Guild (CAG) is an organization of visual artists whose mission is to:Raise awareness and appreciation for the visual arts’ cultural and economic contribution to the communityCreate connections between artists in order to share resources and ideasEducate the community and cultivate new artists and new patrons.Membership is for visual artists 18 and older who live and work in Chatham County. Today the membership is comprised of some 60–70 visual artists. The Guild invites all artists living and working in Chatham County to apply for membership each year.Guild members serve as teaching artists, mentors, and curriculum developers in a variety of CAG Educational Outreach programs. These include sponsorship of the Annual Student Art Show, leading the Leatherworks Club in conjunction with the Chatham Extension Service and 4-H Programs, and creating a Nature Journaling curriculum for County Parks and Recreation. In collaboration with the Calico Makers Market, CAG has developed the Spring and Fall Market Art Activities Booth and an Emerging Artists Program for Chatham and Orange High School artists.The Annual Studio Tour is the Guild's signature event, held the first two weekends each December. It is one of the oldest in the State, a prototype for other area studio tours, and a highly respected art venue. 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of this Chatham County holiday tradition.
