Dining Restaurants, Food & Beverages
The Quiltmaker Café (TQC) was established January 29, 2021 and has been providing donate-what-you-can meals beginning in March 2022. The ultimate goal of The Quiltmaker Cafe is to address the problem of food insecurity in the Pittsboro area of North Carolina by establishing a sustainable resource that reflects a high level of community involvement and awareness, a place that is seamlessly inclusive, such that all are welcome regardless of ability to donate, and where those who cannot donate are not distinguished from other guests. It is intended to serve as one means of creating better health equity and economic stability in the greater Pittsboro area. Many times, food insecure community members do not get to know the pleasure of an "eating- out experience", from choosing a meal from options, to being waited on, to sharing the experience with others. Thus, another top priority of the cafe is to stress the importance of inclusion and participation of our larger community.
The Quiltmaker Café will be a nonprofit, fast-casual restaurant, offering tasty meals and free will pricing to guests. Our mission is to provide community and healthy meals to all people, regardless of their ability to pay. This mission will be accomplished by Pay-What-You-Can pricing (donations include monetary, produce & time) and the option to volunteer in exchange for a meal. Employees will earn a living wage. Guests can choose from a full menu of healthy, seasonal food with portion options. Volunteers will make up the majority of staff. Community tables will be made available to all.
